Surface Blasting was established in 1979 by Ernie Du Plessis, who achieved his blasting certification in 1969. We have forged an enviable reputation in the civil engineering industry in Southern Africa for quick, safe and efficient blasting services.
Recently Haydn Du Plessis took over the sole membership of the company with Ernie du Plessis remaining as chairman in an advisory capacity.

EXPERIENCE
Our experienced is wide and varied. Amongst others we undertake

– blasting in constricted areas
– blasting close to oil pipelines
– blasting under electric pylons
– tunneling,
– blasting domestic swimming pools
– industrial sediment blasting
– build up in factories

We were responsible for the demolition of the Congella Power Station, the demolition of the concrete piers in Durban harbour and the deepening of the Durban harbour.

We have never been delayed or stopped on any contract through injury or accident, only by inclement weather. Surface Blasting Services have never had any claim for injury through Workmen’s Compensation. A health and safety plan is in place. All our work is done in strict accordance with the regulations laid down by AEL, who supply the explosives, and we work under the control of the Inspector of Explosives (South African Police Services).
We carry our own public liability insurance.
